All Good Things Must Come To An End
Tuesday, February 7, 2006, 09:31 AM
Today was not a normal day. I thought things were going well. Woke up early for an important meeting in downtown which lasted almost half the day. The meeting went well and I think we accomplished more than I expected. Having that "good feeling" carried over into work and I just cranked through dozens of e-mails and got quite a bit done today. I actually felt like eating dinner today.
Then I get a call from my friend (Will) in Washington. He proceeds to tell me that he met one of our old college friends from UC San Diego. A blast from the past that I've forgotten. Were we close? We were, but as things happen relationships get complicated and feelings get hurt. I never looked back and I regret it now. I was very close with her family and didn't even know her mother had cancer for the past few years. Well ... she has passed on to a better place.
I'm completely dumbfounded and at a loss for words. Her mother treated me very well ... matter of fact, her entire family treated me like a son. Only I will know the pain I harbor inside. I'm truely sorry for her loss and I wish I could've said goodbye.
What is going on with recent events!? I mean couples splitting ... friends and family passing on ... What tainted 2005 for the populace? Is this natural? Doesn't seem too natural nor does it feel good. I guess all good things do come to an end ... eventually.

A few things ...

I crashed for the second time doing something stupid! Washed out the front getting on the freeway running over those damn white painted arrows on cold tires! Sucks! Bent rotors, fairing damage ... not pretty at all! Thank god the bar end and frame sliders protected the engine casing from any damage. Oh well ... time to rebuild! I guess I can stop tuning now ...

On another note, have you seen those eHarmony.com commercials on TV? Is it just me or do the woman always interrupt the guys when they are talking? What's up with that?!

Data Logging Tonight
Thursday, January 26, 2006, 12:12 AM
So I finally got the 1/5 Throttle Adapter from BRG Racing. Had to loosen the entire throttle cable assembly and even the adjustment knobs are max'd out. I don't have the specified 2-4mm of travel ... more like 1-2mm, but no binding and the cable action is smooth. I'll upload pics to the Gallery when I'm done.
I also spent the extra wrenching time to get the wideband installed with the datalogger. I think I'm going to take it out for a spin tonight and see how it goes. Can't wait to get the AFR tuned. Looking at my tail pipe, the mixture is very rich. I think Bike Night is going to be a wash like it was last time. Too cold for people to go out riding ... too bad, considering that's the only time I have to ride right now. Hopefully, things will change.

How the the other half thinks
Saturday, January 14, 2006, 07:18 AM
What a refreshing night last night. We must have talked for hours! Isn't it nice to talk to the opposite sex? They have such a unique way of thinking about things that it really makes you wonder. Maybe it's my profession, but there aren't many women engineers in my company. There are a few, but far and few between. Everyone seems to solve problems the same way and I think I've gotten used to it. How sad is that?
I just reaquanted myself with a friend from college last night and it was like taking a breath of fresh air. A very rare occurrence, especially here in Los Angeles. You knew what fresh air smelled like, but you just forgot. It's good to be reminded of the little things!

HID Installation - What a PITA!
Wednesday, January 11, 2006, 09:07 PM
So my buddy got some McCulluh HIDs to install in his Kwak Z1000. Figured it's plug and play, only real hard part is finding a place for the balasts. Boy was I wrong! A 1-2 hour job turned into 4 hours! Of course we did mutltiple test fits and bulb burnin to make sure we got everything right. And we did! What a beautiful setup!
As you know, the Z1000 is half faired so the gauge cluster was packed tight with wires. Figure on getting 2 balasts plus 2 high voltage supplies inside there and you see the dilema! We managed to get it all in there ... check out the Photo Gallery for pictures of the install.

My First Wheelie!
Friday, January 6, 2006, 08:22 AM
I've never been a huge fan of wheelies, stoppies, or the likes. However, I just had to try it once ... and after more than a dozen tries I finally popped my first wheelie last night! Sounds a little strange like that, but it was a new experience. Hit the rev limiter in first and the front came down hard. Overall, I think I'm going to try second gear wheelies next. Who knows ... maybe this will teach me more control and it's good to know when you pass the Start/Finish first!
